EPC Cup heads into finals

first_imgSoccer BY DENNYS IORER After two hectic weekends of competition, the Eastern Papua Carnival tournament turns another gear as teams battle for spots heading into the finals playoff. The last round of men’s games tomorrow will see Waterbase taking on Oceaners, Sai Tora Blue facing LSC, Yalas Blue meeting Kaile FC and Simla Green taking on Maiyela, Milbosco facing Oceaners, Samarai FC clashing with Avis Keri 2, Bwabweyani playing Milcen 1 at the Bisini soccer grounds. At the Bava Park, Yosokana will clash with Milcen 2, Ebony Woods play Sai Tora Black and Latana FC will lock horns with Milcen 1. Eastern Papua Carnival president Joyce Grant said yesterday it was a fantastic two weekends of competition. Grant said she and her committee were liaising with venue managers, the National Sports Trust Limited, for the use of the lights to accommodate for night games on Saturday. She said it will allow for the knockouts and the semi-finals to be completed on Saturday night before proceeding to the grand final on Sunday. “It has been a family tournament and a family orientated sport. And we are quite excited about the finals. We are looking forward to the finals,” Grant said. “We have the Under 12s who will be doing their finals too.” She admitted that the competition saw some high level of football showcasing some top players. Grant said one of the issues that arose during the competition was the question of eligibility. She admitted that it had always been an issue and the committee had a meeting and decided that each team will be allowed four players. But she added that during the game only two players will be allowed on the field at any one time. “The committee felt that to not allow them in the competition would be seen as discriminatory. We did not want marginalize them. We needed some experience hands in the competition,” Grant said. She said despite not being able to secure a major sponsor for the tournament, they managed the competition ‘pretty well’. Grant said they are hoping to end the competition on a high note. She also said that the committee lenient this year and tried to keep gate fees at a minimum and allow those with ID cards, and times giving free access to pull the crowd. She added that they have invited Vice Minister for Sports Wesley Raminai to be the guest speaker at the the grand final.last_img read more

SAI extends contract of 32 foreign coaches for training till Tokyo 2021

first_img 1 month ago India can reclaim hockey Olympic medal in Tokyo, says ex-captain Bharat Chetri First Published: 22nd July, 2020 14:36 IST Written By Keeping uninterrupted continuation till the end of the Tokyo Olympic next year in mind, Sports Authority of India has extended on Wednesday the contract of 32 foreign coaches in 11 disciplines till September 30 next year – an extension of at least a year.READ | WADA Suspends National Dope Testing Laboratory Again For Six MonthsREAD | Rendon’s Status For Angels’ Opening Series Still Day To Day”The interim extension of one year till 2021 is an immediate step to ensure athletes have the same coaches till Tokyo Olympics. The further extension of the contract for 4 years will be decided on the basis of the performance of the coach and recommendation from the respective NSFs. The decision was taken to ensure that athletes bound for Tokyo Olympics, which has been postponed by a year, can retain continuity in their training with the same coaches. The postponement of the Tokyo Olympics by a year makes it imperative that the same coaches be retained so that athletes are not disadvantaged in any way. A new coach takes time to understand an athlete and the athlete needs time to understand the training process of a coach. We don’t have that kind of time now,” Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said in a statement. This comes after he had earlier announced that coaches, both Indian and foreign, will be hired for at least 4 years or one Olympic cycle to ensure continuity in training with an eye on the 2024 and 2028 Olympics. The contracts will be reviewed annually and extended on the basis of a coach’s overall performance, indicated by the performance of athletes in major international events.READ | “It’s Going To Be A Messed Up Year” – Frustration Builds As Blue Jays Hunt For HomeREAD | Atwal Set For 3M Open On PGA Tour; Koepka, Johnson In The Field(Image credits: PTI) LIVE TV COMMENT SUBSCRIBE TO US 1 month ago Japan’s child athletes face abuse while training for Olympics: Human Rights Watch 1 month ago Geeta Phogat plans to make sensational comeback and compete at Tokyo Olympics 2021center_img FOLLOW US 1 month ago All venues have been secured for delayed Tokyo Summer Olympics Suman Ray WATCH US LIVE WE RECOMMEND Last Updated: 22nd July, 2020 14:36 IST SAI Extends Contract Of 32 Foreign Coaches For Training Till Tokyo 2021 Sports Authority of India has extended on Wednesday the contract of 32 foreign coaches in 11 disciplines till September 30 next year – an extension of a year 1 month ago Men’s team had good chance of medal if Olympics was held this year: Ashok Kumarlast_img read more

It’s January and Time to Start Networking Again

first_imgThe holiday season has come to an end.  You might be all partied out, but your calendar says otherwise. It’s time to start networking again. You can do this online on sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook, or in person at an industry event. I make sure to get out at least two to three times a month, not including my speaking gigs such as the upcoming SHRM Employment Law & Legislative and Talent Conference & Exposition that I will be presenting at.Sometimes I attend HR events, including local chapter offerings.  I also make it a point at least once a month to get out of my comfort zone at business events to meet new people and expand my knowledge.Networking events are an easy way to meet new people in your industry. They are also a great way to expand your circle of friends and gain new contacts for future projects and endeavors.Get the most out of the next networking event you attend in 2018 and spend your time there efficiently. Do more than shake hands and hand out business cardsHere are five ways to build rapport and make meaningful connections at a networking event:1. Go SoloAttend the networking event alone or distance yourself from other people there that you already know. It’s harder to meet new people when you are standing in a crowd of colleagues or friends. Go solo and be the first to connect with other people there that might not know anybody else.2. Bring Conversation StartersThink of a list of topics you can chat about at the next networking event you attend. That way, when you find yourself talking to somebody new, you will be able to carry the conversation through any awkward lulls. 3. Ask QuestionsBuild rapport with people you just shook hands with at the event by asking them questions. Find out more about their jobs, their companies and even their hobbies. Show interest in them to create relationships that last even when the networking event ends.4. Set a GoalGet the most out of the event by setting a goal for the number of people with whom you want to connect. That way, If the event is an hour or two, you’ll be aware of keeping conversations short so that you can meet a variety of people.5. Arrive EarlyBe early to the event so that you can start conversations with people as they arrive. Also, locate your business cards so that they are handy. Finally, use your social networking to request a meetup. For example, you could tweet or LinkedIn message me to meet at the Legislative, Talent or Annual conference this Spring and Summer. You can reach me on Twitter at @HC3.  For more information on SHRM conferences go to the SHRM events page at https://www.shrm.org/events/pages/default.aspx. Looking forward to meeting you!last_img read more

World Cup: Tough game but well played India, says Sachin Tendulkar

first_imgIndia’s sports fraternity had nothing but praise for the efforts of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s World Cup team, which bowed out of the tournament on Thursday with a 95-run semifinal loss to Australia.Cricket great Sachin Tendulkar led the support on social media with former captain Sunil Gavaskar, allrounder Yuvraj Singh, tennis player Sania Mirza and Olympic gold medal-winning shooter Abhinav Bindra among those adding their admiration for the Indian team.”Well played in the ICC World Cup Team India,” Tendulkar tweeted. “A tough game today and a loss is always difficult to handle. But you have played some terrific cricket throughout and all the fans have enjoyed watching you.”Congratulations to Australia for a convincing win. Steve Smith’s hundred, Finch’s support to him and a strong finish by Johnson made the difference,” Tendulkar wrote in a separate tweet.Former captain Sunil Gavaskar said the toss had proved crucial, with Australia electing to bat first and setting a stiff target of 329.”The toss was always going to be vital, more so for India than Australia,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for The Times of India. “And when Michael Clarke won it and opted to bat, India needed to restrict the Australians to a score of under 300 if they had a chance of getting in the final.”Retired batsman VVS Laxman defended the Indian team’s inability to restrict four-time champion Australia.”The Indian bowlers, except for Ashwin, did not have the experience of playing in big matches,” Laxman told the NDTV news channel. “Overall, the Indians handled the pressure well but Australia bowled better in the match.”advertisementYuvraj, who was named Player Of The Series at the 2011 World Cup, praised Australia for outplaying India, which had won all its seven matches heading into the semifinal.”Sad for my boys, but Australia has played some outstanding cricket in this (World Cup and) deserves to be in the final,” he wrote on his Twitter page.Mirza said she was proud of the way the team played throughout the tournament.”We can’t win everything, every time. … I am Proud of our team and the way they played with pressure throughout. … better luck next time,” she tweeted.Bindra described India’s performance in the tournament as “brave” and also criticized a section of the media which mocked India’s loss.”These extreme reactions reinforce the fact that our country has no sports culture. We have a long way to go to become a sporting nation,” Bindra tweeted.Australia will play New Zealand in the final in Melbourne on Sunday.Well played in the ICC World Cup Team India. The Story So Far

She will be blogging about her experience every month, and you can learn more about her, the other Young Champions, and the program here. This is Takuti village, in Niger State, Nigeria, Lapai Local government. It is approximately a 1 hour and 20-mintue drive from Minna town. It is a community that seems greatly underserved. (Niger State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria and Minna is the capital of the state). The Nupe community is a closely-knit community (Niger state has Hausa, Nupe and Gwari as the major tribes). The children looked between 1 and 2-years old, with 5 pregnant women counted barely 2 minutes after arrival. Amidst all these, one woman captured my attention: tall, slim, seemingly pregnant and still breast feeding a baby who looked barely 7 months old.I looked at the children, following the drama, dancing to the beats, dark and beautiful children, happily dancing their time away! Most had big bellies and I wondered to myself, “Could they be malnourished?” My heart bled for these children, totalling approximately 100 in a very small village, scantly dressed. I thought, “It may be the culture, but the semi-permanent houses, built of clay, with mothers also just tying a shuka (a piece of cloth) could signal some level of poverty.”What was evident is that the girls are married early and give birth within the space of at least 1 year. I couldn’t help but let my mind wander to the facts: the nearest hospital was miles away in a country where 6 women die hourly during pregnancy, delivery and immediately past delivery. These beautiful, dark, smiley little children gathered around the car, waving and saying goodbye. “Very friendly and loving,” I thought. And as we left, only one thing was engrossed in my mind. This is one community I would love to go back to and give my little contribution, even if for just one mother & child!Share this: ShareEmailPrint To learn more, read:last_img read more

The number one quality of a great presentation

first_imgTo follow up on yesterday’s post – the number one quality of a great presenter – I wanted to share the number one quality of a great presentation.(Both of these pieces of advice are from The Art of the Pitch from the legendary ad guy Peter Coughter, now at VCU Brandcenter. The book includes excellent stories that remind us how just how critical it is to master persuasion and presentation skills.)What makes a fantastic presentation? One point. Before you say a thing, you have decided upon a single goal. Everything you say leads to that conclusion. Everything else gets edited out. This is far harder than it sounds. In fact, if you had to quickly scribble on a notecard the one, clear overarching point of your last pitch, could you do it in seconds? If not, you probably didn’t have the overarching story pinpointed. Stick to that sole truth and sell it with great passion. It’s how we connect – and how we get remembered.last_img read more
