Long-haul helps Aer Lingus with 19pc profit rise

first_img Long-haul helps Aer Lingus with 19pc profit rise Tags: NULL Irish airline Aer Lingus yesterday revealed a 34 per cent increase in fare revenues from its long-haul routes, contributing to a 19 per cent overall operating profit boost at the carrier for the third quarter. Short-haul revenue was also up, by 5.5 per cent, helping the group to its strongest third quarter period since the financial crisis. Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller said yesterday that he was “particularly pleased” with the results and added that the company was looking to add more new long-haul routes in the coming months. “In long-haul, we carried nearly a quarter more passengers compared to last year while increasing our load factor and revenue per seat. We target further profitable growth of our long-haul business into 2015. Our new Dublin to Washington service will be launched in May 2015 and services on existing transatlantic routes will be increased,” he added. Operating profit in the third quarter rose 19 per cent to €112.9m (£88m) up from €94.9m in the same period the year before. For the three months to the end of September, the airline carried over three million passengers, an increase of 4.8 per cent compared with 2013. Announcing new routes yesterday, Aer Lingus said the group would operate 24 daily departures across the Atlantic from summer 2015. There will now be a daily flight from Dublin to San Fransisco. Beyonce, Rita Ora and Cara Delevigne: The celebrities brands love the most

Global brands love to use well-known faces as clothes horses – it ensures their clothes are seen in the press, meaning legions of aspirational consumers will rush to buy the same thing. But some celebrities are more sought-after than others, and thanks to Celebrity Intelligence, we’ve got a definitive list of which celebs are the best endorsers for brands.  Taking into account celebs on both sides of the Atlantic, here’s Celebrity Intelligence’s Very Important Endorsers List.   Rank Celebrity1Beyoncé2Rita Ora3Cara Delevigne4Lily Allen5Kim Kardashian West6Taylor Swift7Ellie Goulding8David Beckham9Ed Sheeran10Katy Perry Of course, brands don’t always want their clothes to be associated with celebrities. The retailer, which opened its 400th store last month, said it was on track to open at least a net 50 stores by the end of the financial year, creating 2,500 UK jobs.It is in talks with at least six retailers on right-sizing their estates, chief executive Simon Arora said, without naming who they were. Several retailers and supermarkets have been shedding stores as leases come up for renewal as consumers spend less time and money in big stores and more time online. Homebase parent company Home Retail Group announced plans last month to close a quarter of its estate while DIY group Kingfisher has also been seeking to partner with retailers on some of its over-spaced stores. Goldman Sachs analysts released a note on Monday, warning that supermarkets need to cut 20 per cent of space in their larger stores to return to growth and stem slowing sales.B&M, which listed on Aim in June, posted a 34 per cent rise in earnings to £73m in the first half to 27 September. Group revenues, including its newly acquired German business Jawoll, jumped by 29 per cent to £739.8m while UK like-for-like sales were up 4.8 per cent. “All in this together” takes a back seat as “long term economic plan” and immigration top odds on Osborne’s most likely Autumn Statement phrases

first_imgMonday 1 December 2014 8:50 am Share “All in this together” takes a back seat as “long term economic plan” and immigration top odds on Osborne’s most likely Autumn Statement phrases Are we all in this together? Not any more. The phrase beloved by Cameron and Co has fallen to its longest odds yet when it comes to the likelihood of it appearing in this year’s Autumn Statement at 4/1. It looks like the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is still on track, though, with Ladbrokes giving the phrase the shortest odds of 1/10 as the economy takes centre-stage heading into next year’s general election.Immigration is also set to be a hot topic at 1/3, followed by mentions of Stonehenge and “bringing down the deficit” both evens, while odds on austerity and “magic money tree” have both shortened this year. Less likely to feature in Osborne’s notes is the trending twitter hashtag #CameronMustGo. The government worked with Transport for the North (TfN) to put the plan together.  Costing billions of pounds to implement, the project would introduce better road links between major cities and create billion-pound rail schemes with faster trains. Sections of the M1, M6 and M62 would be widened, the A1 would be improved and better connections would be created to Manchester Airport. If it goes ahead, the cities set to benefit from these better connections include Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, and Sheffield. The introductions would be additional to government’s approved plan to create a high-speed HS3 rail link in the north of England.  In the near future, the hope is to speed up the construction of a route between Leeds and Sheffield, and a hybrid bill will be put forward at the next Parliament.  Government hopes to create “northern powerhouse” with transport overhaul worth billions Share Tags: Northern powerhouse projectlast_img read more

A German government source told City A.M. that Berlin intended to push for an EU-wide minimum rate. “We want to bring a threshold into the discussion,” the source said, adding that the government had yet to identify a specific number for the standardised corporation tax rate.  But the UK Treasury responded by pointing out that any reforms would require the approval of all 28 EU member states. A Treasury spokesperson said: “Direct taxation is a matter for EU countries, and any direct taxation matters require unanimity across all EU countries.” And Number 10 said that the Prime Minister would not back the reforms. “We have a long-standing view on tax harmonisation, which is not to support it,” the spokesperson said. Cameron is due to meet with both Hollande and Merkel this week as part of his efforts to renegotiate Britain’s relationship with the EU. The UK currently has a corporation tax rate of 20 per cent, the lowest among the G7 countries. Germany’s rate ranges between 30 and 33 per cent, depending on the firm, while France has 33 per cent basic rate and 36.6 per cent higher rate of tax. Raoul Ruparel from the Open Europe think tank told City A.M. that the Franco-German proposals were “mostly a political show” and  unlikely to “go anywhere”.  Robert Oxley of the eurosceptic group Business for Britain added: “This shows the EU’s move towards harmonisation and greater fiscal control. Our low level of corporation tax has inspired a lot of investment.”  whatsapp More From Our Partners Matt Gaetz swindled by ‘malicious actors’ in $155K boat sale boondogglenypost.comBrave 7-Year-old Boy Swims an Hour to Rescue His Dad and Little Sistergoodnewsnetwork.orgInstitutional Investors Turn To Options to Bet Against AMCvaluewalk.comAstounding Fossil Discovery in California After Man Looks Closelygoodnewsnetwork.orgKiller drone ‘hunted down a human target’ without being told tonypost.comPolice Capture Elusive Tiger Poacher After 20 Years of Pursuing the Huntergoodnewsnetwork.orgWhite House Again Downplays Fourth Possible Coronvirus Checkvaluewalk.comNative American Tribe Gets Back Sacred Island Taken 160 Years Agogoodnewsnetwork.orgRussell Wilson, AOC among many voicing support for Naomi Osakacbsnews.comFlorida woman allegedly crashes children’s birthday party, rapes teennypost.comMark Eaton, former NBA All-Star, dead at 64nypost.comBiden received funds from top Russia lobbyist before Nord Stream 2 giveawaynypost.comWhy people are finding dryer sheets in their mailboxesnypost.comInside Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’ not-so-average farmhouse estatenypost.comUK teen died on school trip after teachers allegedly refused her pleasnypost.com980-foot skyscraper sways in China, prompting panic and evacuationsnypost.comKamala Harris keeps list of reporters who don’t ‘understand’ her: reportnypost.comSupermodel Anne Vyalitsyna claims income drop, pushes for child supportnypost.comcenter_img UK brushes aside German plan for EU-wide minimum rate of corporation tax Show Comments ▼ Share whatsapplast_img read more
